Bushnell Power View Compact Folding Roof Prism Binocular Review

Bushnell Power View Compact Folding Roof Prism Binocular Review

The Bushnell Power View compact folding binoculars feature 8 X or 10X magnification and a twenty-one-millimeter objective diameter roof prism lenses, all of which work together to provide the most vivid, crisp images that this brand is known for.

These binoculars feature an ergonomic contemporary design that offers advanced optics and an impressive range of magnification. The fact that these binoculars are actually affordable only works to sweeten the deal.

Bushnell is a major brand that’s been around for years. They feature a wide range of optics including binoculars specifically designed for hunting or fishing, laser rangefinders, rifle scopes, and much more. Considering they have a longstanding reputation in the industry for producing only the best optical equipment at reasonable prices, we were excited to take a look at their line of compact binoculars to see how they stood up to competing models in terms of power and quality.

While these binoculars aren’t considered top of the line, for the price we were pleasantly surprised to learn they featured roof prism lenses, which work to drastically improve overall clarity.

The folding design is another reason to buy and one that makes these binoculars a great choice for the hiker or birder who wants to keep their pack load light.

Bushnell Compact Binoculars Rundown and Features

These binoculars are available in 8x or 10x magnification. The objective lenses are a standard thirty-two-millimeters and feature a center focus system. This allows you to easily enlarge objects up to eight or ten times their original size.

With binoculars, their performance and quality are significantly affected by lens quality because the lenses directly affect clarity. Basically, lenses with a bigger diameter are able to capture more light which results in clearer images. The thirty-two-millimeter lenses provide a respectable field of view, allowing you to clearly see even the smallest details.

lens coatings ensure that the binoculars render sharp images and can capture a greater amount of light. Coatings consist of chemicals that are applied to the lenses in order to augment their ability to capture light. Usually, lenses that feature multiple layers of coatings tend to outperform lenses that have no coatings at all.

Fortunately, these Power View binoculars come with fully coated optics which guarantees that they’ll capture a greater amount of light.

Prism lenses are used to upend images coming through the lenses which would otherwise be rendered upside down. Usually, lower-priced compact binoculars come with Porro prisms which aren’t as good at rendering stable upright images.

Bushnell has done it again and set themselves apart from the competition by using roof prisms to render superior quality images. Roof prism lenses feature a more complex, precise optical system that ensures the light doesn’t bend too much, resulting in crystal clear viewing.

These binoculars also include a foldable design. This feature is a big selling point for hikers, hunters, or anyone else who doesn’t want to deal with the inconvenience of lugging around a bulky set of binoculars. This design will allow the binoculars to be folded into a small compact size that can easily fit in your pocket.

Power View Pros and Cons

Bushnell Power View Compact Folding Roof Prism Binocular

Pros: With its non-slip rubber coating that ensures a firm grip and features shock absorbing power, these binoculars can take plenty of rough wear and tear.

These binoculars provide great clarity even in low light conditions, thanks to the fully coated optics which ensure you enjoy a crystal-clear viewing experience. The ability to fold down the eyecups makes these binoculars a great choice for glasses wearers. All you have to do is simply fold down the cups to get a larger field of view.

These binoculars are light, small, and fold up easily. Adjusting the magnification is smooth and fast and it will stay in place.

These binoculars also come with a carry case and a neck strap for added comfort and convenience.

While their use can be somewhat limited outdoors depending on weather conditions, overall, we felt these binoculars were very versatile. They’re perfect for camping, hiking, fishing, or indoor use for concerts, and other types of events.

The center wheel is easy to operate so you can adjust the magnification level with or without gloves on. The wheel moves smoothly but there’s just the right amount of friction that works to prevent the wheel from accidentally moving during transport.

Cons: While the manufacturer mentions that the lenses are coated, they’ve failed to mention that they’re not multicoated. Single layer coating doesn’t quite stand up to multicoated lenses.

These binoculars are not fog-proof or waterproof, which can be limiting, especially if you enjoy early morning bird watching or hunting, or you need a pair of binoculars you can use during rainy weather.

If you’re looking for a pair of compact binoculars that are weather or waterproof, we recommend the Nikon 8218 Trailblazer compact binoculars, which are also available at a comparable price.

If these binoculars get wet it can fog up the lenses, making it impossible to see. You also won’t be able to mount the binoculars to a tripod; however, this shouldn’t be a deal breaker considering how light they are. However, the ability to use a tripod also allows you to share your view with others or maintain a steady gaze.

The included neck strap is described as too thin and uncomfortable.

Bushnell Compact Binoculars Conclusion and Rating
